Challenge
FIKA’s café experience lacks storytelling around the Swedish ritual of fika, leaving many customers unaware of its cultural meaning and purpose.
Insight
Customers value choice, convenience, and small comforts that make their visit feel personal, relaxing, and memorable.
Design Process
1. Café Research
Conducted site visits, mapping, and observation to understand how customers experience the café environment.
2. Cultural Research
Studied Swedish fika traditions to understand the cultural meaning behind the ritual.
3. Empathy Research
Used Design Thinking methods, including What-How-Why analysis, empathy mapping, personas, and journey mapping to understand customer behaviors and needs
4. Concept Development
Explored ideas through moodboards and sketches to translate the fika ritual into an immersive café experience.
5. Environmental Positioning
Defined how the café environment supports accessibility and storytelling, creating a refreshed brand identity for the café experience.
Solution
A refreshed brand introduces Fi and Oli, characters who teach fika through simple actions using modular elements derived from the logo.
Outdoor Enviromental
To improve visibility and accessibility, a photo-op mural and redesigned ramp were introduced.
Ordering Table Kiosk
An in-table kiosk enables seamless ordering from the table, supporting a more intimate fika experience and increasing accessibility.
